Mahat Advisory is a Social Enterprise. Ten percent of net profit is directed to designated community beneficiaries in every profit period — not from surplus, not at discretion, not in a good year. By contractual obligation, in every year. That is the structural difference between social responsibility and social enterprise.
The Social Impact Reserve is not a marketing commitment. It is a legal obligation embedded in the firm's founding structure, constituting the basis for its Social Enterprise designation.
In every profit period, before any distribution is made to the firm's principals, the following priority reserves are set aside from net profit:
Ten percent of net profit is directed to Mahat Advisory's two designated NGO beneficiaries — Fur Kids Farm and Malaysia Mindspace Foundation — in every profit period. This is not discretionary. It is a contractual obligation embedded in the firm's founding structure. The Social Impact Reserve is set aside before any other distribution and cannot be suspended, reduced, or redirected without documented board approval.
The Social Impact Reserve is distributed annually between two organisations whose work Ts. Dr. Manju Appathurai has been personally invested in — not as a donor, but as a founder.
Founded in 2014 by Ts. Dr. Manju Appathurai, Fur Kids Farm is Malaysia's longest-running personal animal rescue operation led by a single founder. It operates without formal institutional funding, sustained by the direct commitment of its founder and the community of adopters, fosters, and supporters it has built over more than a decade.
The animals of Fur Kids Farm are also the first teachers in this work — the rescues that kept the founder alive during her own darkest years, long before the advisory practice existed. This organisation is personal before it is philanthropic.
Established in 2023, Malaysia Mindspace Foundation is focused on accessible mental health education, destigmatisation, and community support across Malaysia. It was founded to address the structural gap between the mental health need in Malaysian workplaces and communities and the professional support available to people who cannot access or afford clinical services.
The Foundation is the institutional expression of what the advisory practice knows clinically: that mental health is not a personal failing to be managed in private, but a community responsibility to be addressed collectively.
Mahat Advisory's ESG position is grounded in what the firm actually does, not in aspirational commitments it cannot verify. We do not publish carbon targets we have no infrastructure to measure. We publish the commitments we are legally bound by and the behaviours we can document.
Every Mahat Advisory engagement contributes to animal welfare and community mental health in Malaysia. Not as a side effect. As a structural obligation. Begin a conversation about the mandate — and know that a portion of every fee has a destination beyond the firm.
