MAHAT ADVISORY
Social Enterprise · ESG · Community Impact

This Is Not CSR.
This Is the Operating Model.

Mahat Advisory is a Social Enterprise. Ten percent of net profit is directed to designated community beneficiaries in every profit period — not from surplus, not at discretion, not in a good year. By contractual obligation, in every year. That is the structural difference between social responsibility and social enterprise.

The Social Impact Reserve is not a marketing commitment. It is a legal obligation embedded in the firm's founding structure, constituting the basis for its Social Enterprise designation.

The Structure

How the Social Impact Reserve Works

In every profit period, before any distribution is made to the firm's principals, the following priority reserves are set aside from net profit:

10%

Social Impact Reserve — Every Profit Period

Ten percent of net profit is directed to Mahat Advisory's two designated NGO beneficiaries — Fur Kids Farm and Malaysia Mindspace Foundation — in every profit period. This is not discretionary. It is a contractual obligation embedded in the firm's founding structure. The Social Impact Reserve is set aside before any other distribution and cannot be suspended, reduced, or redirected without documented board approval.

Why This Matters
Most professional services firms attach a CSR programme to their annual report. Mahat Advisory attaches a legal obligation to its founding documents. The difference is accountability. A CSR programme can be discontinued in a difficult year. A contractual Social Impact Reserve cannot. When you engage Mahat Advisory, a portion of every fee you pay is directed — automatically, obligatorily — to animal welfare and mental health community work in Malaysia.
The Beneficiaries

Two NGOs. Two Missions. One Non-Negotiable Commitment.

The Social Impact Reserve is distributed annually between two organisations whose work Ts. Dr. Manju Appathurai has been personally invested in — not as a donor, but as a founder.

Beneficiary · Animal Welfare
Fur Kids Farm
Animal Rescue · Rehabilitation · Rehoming

Founded in 2014 by Ts. Dr. Manju Appathurai, Fur Kids Farm is Malaysia's longest-running personal animal rescue operation led by a single founder. It operates without formal institutional funding, sustained by the direct commitment of its founder and the community of adopters, fosters, and supporters it has built over more than a decade.

Founded 2014 — over a decade of continuous operation
Hundreds of animals rescued, rehabilitated, and rehomed
Pioneer of the self-sustaining community rescue model in Malaysia
Founder: Ts. Dr. Manju Appathurai

The animals of Fur Kids Farm are also the first teachers in this work — the rescues that kept the founder alive during her own darkest years, long before the advisory practice existed. This organisation is personal before it is philanthropic.

Beneficiary · Mental Health
Malaysia Mindspace Foundation
Mental Health · Workplace Wellbeing · Destigmatisation

Established in 2023, Malaysia Mindspace Foundation is focused on accessible mental health education, destigmatisation, and community support across Malaysia. It was founded to address the structural gap between the mental health need in Malaysian workplaces and communities and the professional support available to people who cannot access or afford clinical services.

Founded 2023 by Ts. Dr. Manju Appathurai
Focus: workplace mental health, community resilience, access equity
Driving destigmatisation in professional and community contexts across Malaysia
Operating model: education, advocacy, and community programming

The Foundation is the institutional expression of what the advisory practice knows clinically: that mental health is not a personal failing to be managed in private, but a community responsibility to be addressed collectively.

ESG Framework

Environmental, Social & Governance — The Mahat Advisory Position

Mahat Advisory's ESG position is grounded in what the firm actually does, not in aspirational commitments it cannot verify. We do not publish carbon targets we have no infrastructure to measure. We publish the commitments we are legally bound by and the behaviours we can document.

E
Environmental
Remote-first operating model reduces business travel carbon footprint. Digital-first service delivery. No physical office footprint. We acknowledge that the environmental dimension of our ESG position is the one we are building — and we will report on it as our infrastructure develops.
S
Social
10% of net profit to community NGOs — contractual, not discretionary. Fur Kids Farm: animal welfare and rescue. Malaysia Mindspace Foundation: mental health access and destigmatisation. Accessible mental health programming as part of the firm's clinical mission. Social Enterprise designation by operating structure.
G
Governance
Principal-led engagement model — no junior analysts. Transparent partner structure. Licensed and regulated clinical practice. PDPA-compliant data handling. Conflict of interest policy embedded in all partner agreements. Annual review of all partner and operational arrangements.

Where Fees Create Impact

Every Mahat Advisory engagement contributes to animal welfare and community mental health in Malaysia. Not as a side effect. As a structural obligation. Begin a conversation about the mandate — and know that a portion of every fee has a destination beyond the firm.
